I realise that, but we have modified the original proposal quite a lot to
match the German standard. I think Shift+CTRL+S is very logical and
follows the them of the new standard to use Shift+CTRL as extensions for
CTRL commands. People will take 10 minutes to get used to the new standard
which on the whole they will find easier to remember.

Ah, but you use the opposite logic when saying why we should keep
Ctrl-A. If they'll take 10 minutes to get used to the new standard, then
they'll take 10 minutes to learn something other than ctrl-a, and they
won't be bothered by it since ctrl-a will do absolutely nothing.
